The Chembur Centre functions from the Gandhi Maidan, which is the meeting grounds for the youth and middle-class workers. The opportunities provided by the Centre to help them develop themselves in games, thus developing their personal lives, and keeping them away from the evils of society. The Boys Recreation Centre at Gandhi Maidan at Chembur had been serving as a base for YMCA community outreach even before the Chembur branch was created in 1975. The branch was inaugurated on April 25, 1975.
